Residence Inn by Marriott Merrillville

This isn't a positive review, just setting the stage. It was a busy week this last week at Merrillville. Great storm of August 2026 hit, even a F1 tornado hit town, however, my comments are all prior to the storm. The County Fair is in town, plus baseball games, so the rooms were maxed out all over. I have been to this Residence Inn twice before, and gave up on them, but the website showed it was full reno, so I gave them a try, plus not much options. @ $175 a night, see above, it is cheap compare to the lack of options; 5 days stay. Service, hit and miss. Check in sucked, there was no "service". The person I spoke to was rude, but note, full capacity, (guest) family party happening at the Dinner/Lobby, Reno... take this for what it may, we are all human. Got my room, yes, it is reno but a BIG BUT. It is really new furniture and paint. Not much more. Washroom was not done, damages still all around. The pillow is still numbly; at Walmart it cost $5, they did not renew them [Bring your own pillow!] I asked for extra pillow hoping I luck out, NOPE! All bad 6/6. To Address an earlier bad review, I looked up my rooms air filter, it was dated Dec 2025, 8 months old, per Google, it

Even though we visited this hotel while under construction I still was satisfied with my stay. The suites remind me of a cozy bedroom. I would definitely return. Us ladies hung out there for a night for a friend/sister 50th birthday celebration. All staff was friendly and helpful.

I can honestly say this was the worst hotel stay I've ever had. I wrote both the general manager and Marriott corporate. I never received a response from the general manager and I'm waiting to hear back from Marriott corporate. Upon check in our room was at first fine but upon later inspection I discovered the room was disgusting. After my wife sat on the toilet we discovered human feces on the toilet seat and blood on the front of the toilet. I was then told to clean the toilet myself cuz there was no cleaning staff and was handed a toilet brush and a Taco Bell cup and a bottle of commercial disinfectant spray. After asking them to clean my room thoroughly while we were at a wedding we came back and while it looked clean there was still bodily fluid on the mattress cover where the sheets head supposedly been changed. Also while inspecting the air filter it looks like the air filter hadn't been cleaned in years. Worst hotel stay ever and aside from one person at the front desk being very helpful everyone else was a mess. This is not even mentioning the entire hotel was under construction and renovation and was a complete disaster area. After all of this they gave us a whopping $60
